ABOUT US

SMU Caretalyst aims to educate, encourage, and empower future leaders to make a difference through three main community service projects — Project Enrich, Project Illuminate and Project Ai, as well as our annual freshmen event, YOLO.

Project Enrich aims to further the holistic education of underprivileged children through physical weekly outings which will focus on teaching them soft skills such as teamwork and communication while educating them about Singapore's culture and heritage. This project will take place over the winter break.

Project Illuminate focuses on serving the underprivileged children to improve their academics through weekly remedial sessions, and cultivate their character and values through our interactions with them via sports, science, and art activities. Additionally, this project takes place during the school semesters.

Project Ai aims to empower Persons With Intellectual Disability (PWIDs) with various skill sets through weekly activities and at the same time, raise public awareness on special needs. This project happens over the summer break.

YOLO is SMU Caretalyst's flagship event for incoming freshmen, which aims to foster the spirit of volunteerism and act as a catalyst to touch the lives of those in need. In addition to a captivating lineup of activities, participants will be involved in a 6-week Community Service Project - Project YOLO.

OUR PEOPLE IN ACTION

HOW TO JOIN THE CLUB?

Students do not need to audition/interview to join us. We welcome all undergraduates to be a part of our family and look forward to serving with you!

"I want to serve and make an impact in communities by spreading help, joy and awareness. Nothing is more fulfilling than helping others in need and putting a smile on their faces be it through a big or small action. I also want to grow more as a compassionate leader and broaden my perspective on the different communities. This will be a great way to meet like-minded people and make positive impacts together."

- Yeshada Anand Deshpande, Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Year 1

"The reason why I am keen to join Caretalyst is because I am interested in the 2 CSP projects that you have. When I was in polytechnic, the diploma I was in have an overseas community service organised for year 3 students every year. I was grateful to have the opportunity to be part of the volunteering team as I had always wanted to participate in such event. Through the event, I always looked forward to participating in other similar types of community service. I never got the opportunity to participate in CSP projects like those offered by Caretalyst, so I thought that this would be a new challenge for me to take on. And since I am someone who is always afraid of participating or trying out new things by my own, in a totally new environment, I also see this as a chance or platform for me to step out of my comfort zone and meet new people. Not only would I be able to play a part in helping the beneficiaries, it would also be a stepping stone for my self-development."

- Tan Wai Ling, School of Social Science, Year 1

FAQ

The number of hours awarded differ from project to project. As a general guide, our projects award roughly 50-70 hours.

All undergraduates! However, Caretalyst members will be prioritised and it will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Absolutely not! Just a heart to serve the underprivileged children and Persons With Intellectual Disability (PWIDs)!

For Project Enrich, we would be collaborating with Life Student Care. For Project Illuminate, we would be collaborating with Life Student Care and Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre. For Project Ai, we would be partnering with the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS).
