SMU Growth-X Consulting
Growth-X is a management consulting club with our greatest asset being our accomplished members, coming from a set of diverse backgrounds ranging from consulting and finance all the way to technology and human resources.
At Growth-X, we pride ourselves in providing our members with thorough training on consulting fundamentals, the opportunity to either lead or be associates in consulting projects with real-world clients (start-ups, SMEs, MNCs) and actual business problems, networking opportunities with industry partners and alumni, and a strong support network of extremely capable seniors and juniors.
However, our slew of opportunities are not just limited to trainings, projects and networking sessions, so come join us for our events and speak with our very friendly club representatives!

DO I NEED TO AUDITION TO GET INTO THE CLUB?
Yes, we will conduct 3 rounds of interviews. Firstly, an application screening where interested students will answer a couple of open-ended questions. Secondly, a group case interview where we aim to assess your ability to think. And thirdly, coffee chats with the executive committee to help us ensure alignment between the club's offerings and the prospective members' goals.

Not at all, we encourage those who are new to consulting to apply for the role. One of our key ethos is the commitment to education and growth. Therefore, we are open to teaching and training those who are new to consulting as long as there is a willingness to learn.
With this in mind, our interview process has been specifically designed to ensure that it is purely meritocratic to applicants from varied backgrounds. Key traits we are looking out for are strong quantitative reasoning skills, logical critical thinking, clear articulation, and a willingness to learn.
Not at all! We believe the core consulting toolkit of logical problem solving, concise executive-level communication, and stakeholder management serves as a complement to excel in any role you pursue in the future.
Beyond diversity in intake, our alumni and seniors’ placements reflect the versatility of our curriculum. To date, we are well-established with seniors and alumni working across various industries (e.g., consulting, finance, technology, marketing, and sales).
What you give to the club is what you get out of it. The club provides ample opportunities for members step up and accelerate their learning to match your personal drive.
For the first semester, there will be a 2-hour weekly training session conducted in-person. However, that represents the lower limit for our commitment as the club has access to opportunities such as national/ international case competitions to hone your skills. During the training phase, we will provide the tools, opportunities, and network for you to maximize your own learning outside of our curriculum as well.
Commitment is expected to rise exponentially once client projects are assigned to our analysts. With client engagements on a professional basis, we provide a platform for our analysts to experience the rigor of full-fledged engagement and expect analysts to deliver at the high standards required of a representative of the university.
If you have the capacity to do so, we also encourage members to pursue holistic interests and a vibrant university life.
Training is spearheaded by our Vice President, Ms Suh Yae Eun, a learned year 3 business student with rich experiences in consulting, having had experiences in top consulting firms such as McKinsey & Company and Lit Strategy.
She is supported by a team of experienced year two students who have undergone our training programme and augmented their knowledge through both client-facing projects and internships. Hence, they possess solid fundamentals and are well equipped to impart their deep knowledge to the incoming trainees.
