SMU Tax Society
Founded in August 2011, our club strives to become the hub of professional growth and learning by cultivating a vibrant student tax community within SMU. We focus on providing a platform for participants to kindle their interests in the accounting and tax industry. If you’re seeking avenues to expand your horizons in the field of tax and apply real-life tax issues on various industries, our club is the right place for you!
Some of our exciting activities organised by our vibrant executive committee includes the renowned annual Tax Case Challenge, our very own networking event - Tax Alumni Night, as well as an insightful Mid-Term Career Talk by professionals. Of course, not to mention the new initiatives that our club has come up with such as our monthly tax socials ‘Fun-tax-tic’, treasure hunts, and a tax career guidebook to assist students in navigating their career paths.
Backed by Big 4 accounting firms, regulatory and accreditation bodies, our club provides the ideal platform for you to expand your network and gain an appreciation for the tax landscape. Wait no further, join us now!
- Mid-Term Career Talk One of our signature events where TSoc invites distinguished guests from various specialisations in the tax industry to share their experience with our participants. This event aims to provide students with a deeper comprehension of the tax industry when considering future careers or internship opportunities, and provide networking opportunities with professionals from the invited companies.
- Alumni Night Our very own yearly networking event where SMU students and alumni are invited for an exciting night filled with games and refreshments. This event creates a platform for SMU students and alumni to connect over food and entertainment, and have the opportunity to learn about the tax industry.
- Tax Case Competition Our annual competition where students put their tax knowledge to the test and apply what they have learnt to a real-life context. With tax professionals as judges, this event aims to raise awareness of taxation among tertiary students currently pursuing their studies in Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) while gaining real-world insights into tax.
- Treasure Hunt A unique opportunity for students to learn more about tax through a gamified approach. Participants stand to win attractive prizes by discovering our question cards around the SMU campus and submitting their answers to the questions found on the cards.

You may indicate your interest to join the EXCO and fill up the form during VIVACE 2022. We will send you an email to invite you for an interview when we start recruiting the next batch of executive committee members.
It may start as early as September/October 2022. Do follow our Instagram page (@smutaxsociety) and LinkedIn (SMU Tax Society) account, or simply look out for our emailers to stay updated!
We conduct general meetings monthly to update the executive committee on the progress of each department and their upcoming plans. We might also hold events-related meetings in addition to the monthly meetings to update each other on our progress of the upcoming event.
Other than work, we also meet up from time to time for some chill bonding sessions :)
TSoc aims to give students the opportunity to learn more about tax - both as a potential career or an area of interest. We also want it to be an avenue for you to expand your network in the area of accounting and tax.
